Double Silver for Blaufränkisch 2016
Our Höpler Blaufränkisch 2016 has been awarded Silver and 90 points by the Decanter Wine Awards 2019 and the Sommelier Awards 2019.
Blaufränkisch is the second most planted red varietal in Austria and a variety that is particularly famous in Burgenland. Fortunately it is a grape that is becoming increasingly sought after internationally and is wonderful to hear London sommelier Heesoo Kang (Flat Three Restaurant) confirm this too: ‘There is consumer demand for Austrian reds. I think they have a really good potential to grow internationally'.
In the recent Decanter Awards Höpler Blaufränkisch 2016 was described as;
'Fresh and concentrated with aromas of blackberries, blueberries, plums with a hint of freshly turned earth. Juicy fruits are balanced with ripe tannins and fresh acidity'.
and in the Sommelier Wine Awards as:
'Fresh, bright red fruit, combined with a lovely floral, rose note,’ began Heesoo Kang of Flat Three Restaurant, who went on to describe ‘cranberry and strawberry notes, with a really bright tone of red fruit on the smooth and juicy palate – and easy to drink‘
The Decanter World Wine Award is the largest Wine Compettion in the world with more than 17,000 wines judged by over 280 Judges in just over two weeks. This year there were 153 entries from Austria.
