Hoepler wine diners with Ravines and Lento, Upstate New York
Christof and Louise Hoepler hosted two fabulous wine diners this last week in upstate New York organised by Elmira Distributing.
The first, held at Ravines Winery in the beautiful Finger Lakes, put Hoepler wines to the test v’s Ravines, accompanied by some excellent food pairing by Chef Scott Riesenberger. We had a wonderful selection of guests who were keen to learn about Austrian wines and interested in the similarities of two wine regions so many 1000 of miles apart. We at Hoepler are relieved we don’t have to worry about snow and ice as early as October in Burgenland as they do in New York. We are particularly interested to see how their new planting of Blaufraenkisch develops, an Austrian variety introduced by their winemaker Morton.
The second Hoepler wine diner was held at Lento Restaurant, Rochester with chef and owner Art Rogers, nominated for a James Beard Award. Art was not only brave but pushed the boat out with his Austrian cuisine. All 30 guests were ecstatic to have such a fun and informative evening. Nobody had ever had such elegant Käse Krainers (bratwurst filled with cheese), let alone paired them with a Hoepler Pinot Noir. It was a hit. Art’s duck schnitzel with our Hoepler Zweigelt was equally superb and the dinner will remain in our memories for years to come.
