Jost Höpler WiraWåxt: The old man who refuses to stop!
The press continues! Jost Höpler - Christof's father and founder of the Höpler Winery is yet again hitting the National Austrian press with his second vintage of WiraWåxt. This weekend there was another double page spread. This time in the weekend section of Die Presse - Austria's most widely read quality newspaper.
Without wishing to translate the entire article we provide a quick synopsis;
Firstly the title! The old man who refuses to stop! - this summarizes the whole adventure beautifully. At the spritely age of 80, Jost founded his second wine business a vineyard up on the Nussberg hills, overlooking the city of Vienna. The mixed rows of Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling and Pinot Blanc vines called Untere Schoss he had inherited decades earlier from his mother and which needed much love and attention to achieve their full potential.
Many of you will recall how his efforts to reinvogorate the vineyard was followed by the huge success in the sales of the first vintage WiraWaxt 2019 which quicklz sold out- The second vintage 2020 is building on this further.
Hats off to Dorli Jost's wife of 50 years
Some Höpler siblings all and the key pickers at harvest time
This article delves into the history of our family as a well known textile merchant during the Habsburg monarchy and how this vineyard came into our family's ownership through Jost's mother, Christof's grandmother, and fortunately was never sold.
Over the last few months there has been a gentle stream of inspired customers, some cycling across to Vienna to buy a single bottle, others who delibrately hike into the Nussberg Hills on the off chance of seeing Jost at work himself. A huge effort indeed which he treasures enormously.
Attached is the original press release providing the full story in English of the wonderful, may we say almost legendary wine, WiraWåxt.
